Meet the men behind the Corner Convo Podcast

AMON
Amon Phillips is a highly accomplished creator, producer, and host in the podcasting and media industry. He is the creator of The Corner Convo Podcast, a culture-driven show celebrating Chicago’s influence across sports, music, and community.
Amon also serves as the producer of What’s Funny Today — a podcast about the business of comedy created in partnership with Knowledge and Lil Rel Howery — highlighting how comedians build careers beyond the stage. In addition, he is the producer and co-host of SportzUnplugged alongside the Chicago legend Leon Rogers, where they deliver unfiltered takes on sports and culture.
With experience that spans national projects — including collaborations with Bill Bellamy and NBA icon Mark Aguirre — Amon’s expertise in production, storytelling, and media strategy has positioned him as one of Chicago’s leading creative voices. His dynamic body of work and ability to bridge culture and conversation make him one of the most respected producers in modern podcasting.
ABASI
Abasi first made his mark on the basketball court as an All-City standout in Chicago, later helping lead Indiana State University to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1979, when Larry Bird made history. Known for delivering March Madness buckets against powerhouse programs like the Texas Longhorns, Abasi eventually took his talents overseas, continuing his basketball career at the professional level.
After his playing days, Abasi built a respected career as a veteran law enforcement officer with nearly 20 years of service, giving him a unique, firsthand perspective on the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve. His experience and professionalism have also led him to provide personal security for public figures such as NBA veteran and TV personality Kendall Gill and comedic legend Aries Spears.
Beyond his career, Abasi is a devoted father to a teenager with special needs — a journey that inspired him to co-found Camrin’s H.O.P.E. for Achievement, a nonprofit organization supporting families navigating similar challenges.
Born and raised on the West Side of Chicago and the son of two educators, Abasi blends the discipline of an athlete, the insight of a law enforcement officer, and the honesty of a father with the unapologetic energy that’s made him the internet’s new #1 hater — and the outspoken, fearless host of The Corner Convo Podcast, Chicago’s top culture and conversation platform.
